Does UVA meet 100% of demonstrated need? ›

Students are offered admission based on their intellect, academic achievements and extracurricular involvement, regardless of their financial situation or ability to pay. We meet 100% of financial need.

For every 100 applicants, 21 are admitted. This means the school is very selective. If you meet UVA's requirements for GPA, SAT/ACT scores, and other components of the application, you have a great shot at getting in.

The University of Virginia announced today that it admitted 1,133 early decision applicants to the Class of 2028. A total of 4,465 early decision applications were received, resulting in an overall early admission rate of 25 percent. The resident admit rate was 30 percent versus 18.5 percent for non-residents.

When thinking about how to get into UVA, you should make sure each part of your application—your GPA, test scores, and UVA supplemental essays—is top-notch. This means keeping your GPA high, studying well in advance to ensure strong UVA SAT scores or ACT scores, and building up your extracurriculars.

The US News college rankings place the University of Virginia ranking at #25 among all national universities. The University of Virginia ranking in US News is the same as that of NYU, the University of Michigan, and the University of Southern California—three other large, elite colleges.

The 25th percentile New SAT score is 1400, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1510. In other words, a 1400 places you below average, while a 1510 will move you up to above average. There's no absolute SAT requirement at UVA, but they really want to see at least a 1400 to have a chance at being considered.

AccessUVa is the financial aid program for the University of Virginia. It guarantees 100 percent of the demonstrated financial need of undergraduate students, all of whom are admitted on a need-blind basis.

We've extended our current test-optional practice for two years. If you're applying for admission for Fall 2024 or Fall 2025, you'll have the choice of sharing or not sharing results from the SAT and ACT.
