Elena Maria “Helen” Keiber, 86, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away on Oct. 26, 2022, in East Flat Rock, NC after a brief illness. Helen was a devout Catholic and a loving mother, wife, and aunt. What brought her the most joy in life was her son, “Baby Harry”. She also enjoyed caring for her loved ones, cooking, reading, puzzles, playing cards and bowling. Read the full obit on SILive.

Francesco “Frank” “Big Boy” Patricolo, 74, was a S.I. resident for 43 years. He worked for many years as a repo man, as well as a local cab driver. He often referred to himself as a “transportation engineer.“ Frank loved music and at most family functions he would sing and play guitar alongside his brother Charles. Frank retired a few years ago and moved to South Carolina with his wife Eneida. He had a wicked sense of humor and a heart of gold. YESTERDAY’S OBITUARIES:

Dr. Albert A. Maniscalco, 82, a physician who spent 29 years as a practicing Medical Internist and Nephrologist on Staten Island, passed on Oct. 31, 2022 in Charleston, South Carolina where he retired in 2003. He was the owner and director of the Richmond Kidney Center on Staten Island from 1984 to 2003. He was also the son of Albert V. Maniscalco, Borough President of Richmond County (1954 to 1965), and Grace Fiorelli Maniscalco. Dr. Maniscalco was a graduate of the University of Norte Dame, New York Medical College, and was a member of the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. He did his internship and residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan and fellowship in Nephrology at Duke University. He was listed numerous times in New York Magazine as one of the Top Doctors. Upon retirement, he became a loved and respected member of the Medical University of South Carolina’s Nephrology department. Darlene A. Miles (Nichols), 88, passed away peacefully on Oct. 18, 2022, in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, with family at her side. After training for her first big job with Capitol Air, she was transferred to the Big Apple. It was at her ticketing agency with Capitol Air at Grand Central Station where she met the love of her life, NYPD Patrolman John E. Miles. Darlene and John were wed in 1954 and eventually moved to Staten Island after living in Queens. It was here where they bought their first (and only) home in which they raised six children. Darlene loved sports, having played on a championship Anita High School basketball team, and loved to bowl, competing in a women’s league and mother-daughter league on Staten Island. She volunteered coaching at St. Sylvester’s Elementary Catholic Youth Organization basketball. Darlene went back to work in Manhattan at Manufacturer Hanover Trust for over 10 years and volunteered at the Staten Island University Hospital for over 35 years. Read the full obit on SILive.

Cecilia M. O’Connor McGivney, 88, passed away peacefully on Oct. 28, 2022, in her home in Alpharetta, GA. Born and raised on Staten Island, she attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School, and Notre Dame Academy High School. After High School, she worked for the Telephone Company in New York and in 1955 she married the love of her life, Richard “Red” McGivney and had three children. They were married for 25 years before Richard passed in 1980. After marriage, she worked for the Telephone Company in Maryland, the Staten Island Savings Bank, and Smiling Sunny’s during the Christmas Season. In 1982, Cecelia earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Wagner College and became a Registered Professional Nurse. During nursing school, she worked as a nursing attendant at Silver Lake Nursing Home. Upon graduation she worked at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn. She worked in the Renal Unit and was instrumental in the development of their inpatient Peritoneal Dialysis Program. For the latter part of her career, she worked as a home care nurse and supervisor with VNA of Staten Island, Mt. Sinai in Manhattan, and Girling Home Care in Brooklyn. Cecilia loved her Irish heritage and was a woman of deep faith who was active in her parish of Holy Child. Read the full obit on SILive.

Joan H. Goetz, 94, family manager, conservationist, and special education teacher, passed on Oct. 21, 2022, in Waymart, PA. Joan enjoyed a happy childhood in Great Kills. She attended Staten Island Academy, received her B.A. from Rosemont College and an M.A. from New York University. Joan went on to meet her husband, Donald Francis Goetz, at the Richmond County Country Club. After being wed in 1953, the two would go on to raise six children in their home on Todt Hill. Joan participated in community organizations such as the PTA, Historic Richmond Town, Staten Island Greenbelt Natural Areas League, League of Women Voters, Honesdale Women’s Club and The Audubon Society.
